All foreign students must now provide a certificate of Slovak language knowledge at least at level B1 to the university upon admission, and sometimes this certificate is also required when submitting documents for a D visa and residence permit for the purpose of studying at a university.
This step was taken to improve the integration of foreign citizens into Slovak society. Level B1 guarantees that people are able to communicate in Slovak on everyday topics and understand texts. It also provides the opportunity for successful adaptation to a new country and establishing communication with local residents, at work, at university.
To obtain a certificate, you must pass special language tests - they are conducted by universities as well as language schools that evaluate reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in Slovak. Test options and study materials are available in language centers and schools throughout Slovakia.
The exam consists of two parts: oral and written. Upon successful completion of the test, a certificate with the indicated level of language proficiency is issued. If necessary, we send it to the university.
TESTING FOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE SLOVAK LANGUAGE
Slovakia is not the only country that introduces such requirements. Some countries, such as the Czech Republic, introduced this requirement several years ago. Many other countries of the European Union also have similar standards aimed at promoting language integration and facilitating the adaptation of foreign citizens.
